UNC football snaps a four-game losing streak with a convincing win over Virginia
The UNC football bounced back in a very strong way, pulling off a convincing victory over Virginia on Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville.
Coming into this game, the Tar Heels were riding a four-game losing streak and were taking the field for the first time since Tylee Craft's passing. While it's been a rough two weeks for the boys in Chapel Hill, they made their former teammate proud with their overall performance.
The defense made life miserable for the Cavaliers offense, especially quarterback Anthony Colandrea. North Carolina recorded a season-high 10 sacks and also recorded two interceptions (one of which was a 84-yard pick-6 from defensive lineman Jahvaree Ritzie).
Kaimon Rucker had a tremendous day, recording eight tackles, three sacks and an interception. Overall, the Tar Heels recorded 12 tackles for loss, holding the Cavaliers to under 300 yards of total offense.
On the offensive side of the ball, JJ Jones put together a career day, hauling in 5 catches for a career-high 129 yarda and two touchdowns. Omarion Hampton rushed for over 100 yards and eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the second consecutive season in the process.
After trailing 3-0 (which could've been worse if it wasn't for a defensive stop on the goal line,) the UNC football program kept finding ways to capitalize. The offense was in rhythm while the defense caused chaos, as it was a overall team victory that hopefully serves as a spark for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Mack Brown and the Tar Heels hit the road again next week as they take a trip to Tallahassee to square off against Florida State.
