Bill Belichick and his staff did a great job developing talent along the defensive line unit last season, and now will look to do that once again with the addition of former Florida defensive lineman Tarvorise Brown.

Tarvorise Brown commits to North Carolina

Following his official visit to campus on January 2, Tarvorise Brown has elected to call Chapel Hill his future home, as first reported by Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong. He will have two seasons of eligibility to work with once he arrives on campus.

After redshirting in 2023 at Hutchinson CC, Brown took a chance on himself, joining the Florida Gators as a walk-on. He appeared in three games during the 2024 season, recording a total of 26 snaps.

In 2025, Brown's playing time was extremely limited, playing just eight snaps over the three games he participated in.

Brown has something you can't teach

A 6-foot-7, 300-pounder, Tarvorise Brown has the size that you simply can't teach. College coaches dream of having that type of physical presence chasing around the opposing team's quarterback throughout a football game.

Can UNC unlock his potential?

There has to be something that the UNC football program's coaching staff sees in Brown that they hope to unlock once he arrives on campus. The hope is that Brown will be among the next wave of breakout defensive stars for the Tar Heels, following the path we saw Melkart Abou-Jaoude and Tyler Thompson take a season ago.

While most of the additions thus far have been depth pieces, the UNC football program still has plenty of work to do within the transfer portal. Expect more additions over the next few weeks, but also keep in mind the importance of having as much talent and depth as possible at each position on the football field.
