UNC Football: Drake Maye throws first career NFL touchdown pass
Sunday afternoon is a day of firsts for former UNC football star Drake Maye.
Not only did the former Tar Heel star make his first career start in the NFL, he also threw his first professional touchdown pass.
With the New England Patriots driving toward the end of the first half, Maye connected with wide receiver Kayshon Boutte for the 40-yard score. While it appeared as if the Patriots would be content with getting into field goal range, Maye threw a near perfect pass to help his team put some points on the board.
Tar Heel fans aren't surprised one bit by Maye's arm talent, a trait he showcased on many occasions during his time with the UNC football program. Maye was one of, if not the, best quarterback in the country when it came to throwing the ball down field, as his arm strength and accuracy are skills that should bode well for him in the NFL.
Through the first half of play, Maye completed eight of 14 passes for 105 yards. He connected with five different receivers in an effort to spread the ball around the field.
Drake Maye will always remember his first NFL start, a goal that he's dreamed of fulfilling since even before his days with the UNC football program. His first touchdown pass just adds to the special occasion, as that football is one that he'll cherish forever.
Now, the hope is that plenty more touchdown passes are set to come for Drake Maye as the "Maye Era" is officially underway in New England.
