The hidden gem of the UNC football program's 2026 recruiting class is no longer hidden.

This week, 247Sports released its updated Class of 2026 rankings, as no other high school football athlete from this graduating class had a bigger rise than UNC football commit Travis Burgess.

After being unranked previously, Burgess has risen into the top 100 of the class, situating at No. 65 overall on the list. He is also viewed as the No. 7 overall quarterback that this class has to offer, jumping 27 spots from his previous ranking.

Not many people knew much about Burgess when he committed to the UNC football program, but it hasn't taken long for him to put the country on notice. Following a strong outing at the Elite 11 Finals, Burgess continues to impress, showcasing the skills that made him a priority target for Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels.

During his time in the NFL, Belichick demonstrated a knack for identifying talent, uncovering numerous hidden gems along the way. Burgess was in that category before bursting onto the scene, as the best-kept secret in Chapel Hill is now making national waves ahead of his senior season of high school football.

The UNC football program continues to thrive on the recruiting trail. With the new regime in town, the Tar Heels have had no problems in luring high school talents to Chapel Hill, as Burgess has made the case to be regarded as the prized possession of North Carolina's recruiting haul.
