Add another player to the UNC football program's 2026 recruiting class!

The latest commitment comes from Aveon Williams, a three-star prospect from Casa Grande, Arizona. While 247Sports lists him as a defensive lineman, Williams was recruited by North Carolina as an athlete, with the idea that he'll play tight end once he arrives on campus.

Inside Carolina was the first to report the news:

A growing trend for the UNC football program continues to bloom. High school student athletes take their visit to Chapel Hill and commit either on the spot or a few days later.

Armando Bacot once said it best:

A 6-foot-6, 250-pounder, Williams earned a scholarship from the UNC football program about a month and a half ago. Now, the talented athlete has decided to call Chapel Hill his future home, becoming the 20th student-athlete in the Class of 2026 to join the Tar Heels.

Before committing to North Carolina, Williams had a handful of scholarship offers on the table. Some of the programs included in his recruitment were Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Oregon, UNLV and Utah, among others.

While some fans will get caught up in the amount of stars a player has on their recruiting profiles, it's important for programs to add three and four star talents to their roster. We've seen it plenty times in the past where lower-ranked prospects end up being the biggest gets, as the UNC football program continues to bring in some underrated student-athletes who want to take their game to the next level under Bill Belichick's leadership.
