The road to a potential three-peat goes through Chapel Hill.

For the third year in a row and the sixth time in the past seven years, the UNC field hockey program has earned the top overall seed in the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. This marks the 12th time in program history that the UNC Field Hockey team earned the No. 1 overall spot since seeding began back in 1997.

Karen Shelton Stadium will play host during the opening, first, and second-round matchups, giving the UNC field hockey team the opportunity to play more games on their home field. They'll open up NCAA Tournament play on Friday morning at 11:00 AM when they face the winner of Wednesday's opening-round bout between Delaware and Fairfield.

If the Tar Heels are able to advance, they'll head to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the NCAA Tournament semifinals and championship rounds.

It was another dominant regular season for the UNC field hockey team, and its success carried into the ACC Tournament. Heading into NCAA Tournament play, the Tar Heels have a perfect 18-0 record, as the goal is to pick up four more victories before its all said and done.

The Tar Heels have won two consecutive NCAA Tournament championships and have been crowned the national champion in five of the last six events. North Carolina, led by second-year head coach Erin Matson, is once again the clear-cut favorite to win the NCAA Tournament, and the hope is that the program's dominance continues.
