In what now feels like a very long time ago, RJ Davis and Caleb Love were running the backcourt for the UNC basketball program.
From entering college as part of the same recruiting class to helping guide the Tar Heels to the Final Four in 2022, the duo has plenty of experience with each other. While their college paths took them in separate directions (Davis staying at North Carolina while Love transferred to Arizona to complete his final two collegiate seasons), they now are competing at the next level and are still on opposite sides.
Two epic RJ Davis vs. Caleb Love battles
This week, the NBA G-League schedule blessed us with a pair of battles between the former Tar Heels.
On Sunday, Davis and the South Bay Lakers earned a 129-122 victory over Love and the Rip City Remix, but both players had outstanding efforts.
Love scored 25 points, knocked down four three-pointers and recorded seven assists, while Davis tallied 24 points, six assists and a trio of three-pointers made.
Tuesday's outcome was different, courtesy of another clutch moment from Love.
In overtime, Love drained a three-pointer that will look very familiar to Tar Heel fans. While the shot is eerily similar, it wasn't Mark Williams guarding him this time: it was his former teammate RJ Davis.

Love's 28 points helped Rip City snap South Bay's 12-game winning streak, as his performance served as the difference in the victory. Davis had the better night overall, scoring a game-high 29 points, five 3-pointers and five assists, but his efforts came up short.
A blast from the past
The journey of RJ Davis and Caleb Love is one that always will feel like an unfinished story for the UNC basketball program.
Both players went on to do great things, as Davis secured the ACC Player of the Year crown his true senior season while Love earned the Big 12 Player of the Year award in the same season.
However, regardless of what transpired, it always will feel like a "what if" in terms of if they ended their college careers together in Chapel Hill. While we'll always wonder what could've been, at least we can enjoy watching them compete against each other in the pros.
