The weather could only delay Grayson's dominant performance against Collins Hill in their 2025 season opener.
Led by UNC football commit Travis Burgess, Grayson, the No. 10-ranked team in the Rivals National High School Composite Rankings, put together a dominant performance en route to a 51-3 victory.

Due to weather delays, the game didn't get started until 10:00 PM. Regardless, Burgess and Grayson were more than ready, as redemption from last season's loss to Collins Hill (their lone loss of the 2024 season) was still very much fresh on their minds.
The field conditions played a significant role in the game plan, as Burgess wasn't asked to sling the football as much as he likely will in other games this season. However, he was lethal with his legs, rushing for 96 yards and a touchdown.
In total, the future Tar Heel threw for 133 yards and three scores through the air to go along with what he did in the running game. It was more than enough for Grayson in what amounted to be a blowout victory, one that the program hopes helps set the tone for the competitive schedule ahead.

With the game being streamed, fans of the UNC football program got to see first-hand what Burgess can do on the football field. While the game conditions limited what he was asked to do through the air, Burgess still showed flashes of why he has quickly rose as one of the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2026, a guy that Bill Belichick and company are excited to see in Carolina Blue in just a few short months.

The UNC football program's 2026 recruiting class has garnered significant attention, particularly given the large number of players (along with their quality) who have pledged to the Tar Heels. Burgess is the prized piece of a current 36-man recruiting class, a group that has the potential to be special for the UNC football program very soon.
