After opening the 2026-27 season with an 80-72 victory over Western Carolina, UNC returns to the Dean E. Smith Center on Friday night to host the Wofford Terriers.
Although the Tar Heels won their season opener, they still have room to improve. Western Carolina cut what was once a comfortable UNC lead to just one point in the second half, reminding everyone that this new-look roster is still developing chemistry.
Matt Able led the way with 18 points, while several newcomers contributed in their first official game wearing Carolina blue.
Friday's contest offers Malone another opportunity to evaluate his rotations, establish consistency on both ends of the floor, and continue building momentum before the schedule becomes increasingly difficult.
However, Wofford is an opponent that the Tar Heels shouldn't overlook.
The Terriers enter Friday's matchup following a 90-59 loss to Tennessee, but they have enjoyed success against the Tar Heels in recent history. Wofford has won two of the last three meetings between the programs, including its last two trips to Chapel Hill.
North Carolina will certainly hope to reverse that trend while improving to 2-0 on the young season.

What to watch for against Wofford
While UNC secured its first victory of the season on Monday night, Friday's matchup offers a chance to address early concerns.
The Tar Heels will look to establish a more consistent offensive rhythm while continuing to build chemistry on a roster with several new faces.
Defensively, UNC held Western Carolina to just 33.9 percent shooting, an encouraging sign for a team still adjusting to Malone's system.
The challenge now is putting together a more complete 40-minute performance.
With six consecutive home games to open the season, the Tar Heels have a chance to build confidence and chemistry before facing tougher competition.
Friday night's matchup against Wofford represents the next step in that process.
