There's been a ton of chatter surrounding the UNC basketball program and their offseason rebuild of their roster.
Whether it's the reported amount of money the university is spending on the roster (approximately $14 million) or questions surrounding whether or not this team could actually be a good one, North Carolina has earned its fair share of national attention throughout the offseason.
While there certainly are questions about this year's squad, there seems to be a lot of potential with this group, as 247Sports ranks the Tar Heels' offseason haul among the top 10 team rankings for the 2025 cycle.
Now, it's important to note that these rankings include both incoming freshman along with transfers. It's essentially a collection of what each program put together to bolster their roster for the 2025-2026 season.
In these rankings (which you can view here), the UNC basketball program comes in at No. 7 overall on the list. The Tar Heels are the second-highest ranked ACC program, only trailing Duke (who claimed the top spot on the list).
Even though only two ACC programs cracked the top 10 on this list, the top 25 is full of teams from the conference. Louisville and NC State are ranked No. 13 and 14, respectively, while Syracuse (18), Miami (19), Notre Dame (22), and SMU (23) also boast strong offseasons.
For North Carolina, the goal this offseason was to get bigger, a goal that Hubert Davis and company accomplished. They landed big man Henri Veesaar via the transfer portal and surrounded him with more height, adding guys such as Jarin Stevenson and prized five-star incoming freshman Caleb Wilson.
This year will be very different for North Carolina, as we haven't quite seen this drastic of a roster change essentially in the illustrious history of the UNC basketball program. While change could definitely be scary, it might be a good thing for the Tar Heels, having an opportunity to reset in an effort to get back to consistent success on the basketball court.
