If you went to sleep at halftime, you missed one Heel of a second half!

2316. UNC. 92. 441. Final. 90

Down by 18 at the half and trailing by as much as 21 points, the UNC basketball program tied the second-largest comeback in program history as they defeated Dayton in a nail-biting finish to begin the Maui Invitational.

While Hubert Davis won't be happy with the hole his team dug early on, he'll be very pleased with the fight they showed over the final 20 minutes of action. Behind stellar performances from Seth Trimble and RJ Davis, the Tar Heels scored 59 points in the second half, which was just enough to secure the victory.

Fast forward to 1:52 remaining in the game, as an Davis three-pointer temporarily gave the Tar Heels the lead. Dayton responded with a three of their own, but North Carolina had an answer from one of their freshman standouts.

Following the Malachi Smith three-pointer, Davis found an open Drake Powell in the corner for a three-pointer to regain the lead. That basket from the freshman gave North Carolina the lead for good, as RJ Davis would ice the game with four made free throws.

While Davis led all scorers with 30 points, it was his all-around effort that stood out the most. The fifth-year guard recorded seven rebounds and five assists, production that was certainly needed given how backcourt mate Elliot Cadeau struggled throughout the game.

Trimble once again had an outstanding performance, recording a double-double. The junior finished with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds as he once again played an instrumental role in the UNC basketball program's success.

Was it pretty? No.

Will we take it? HEEL YEAH!

Now, the UNC basketball program will have a quick turnaround as they'll take on No. 4-ranked Auburn on Tuesday night in the semi-finals of the Maui Invitational.

Make sure you get some sleep it: it's going to be another late night!
