Still in search of a point guard, the UNC basketball program has been sorting through the remaining options currently in the transfer portal.

While some players they showed heavy interest in have found new homes elsewhere, there are still some good talent left to be had. One of those players is Chattanooga transfer Honor Huff, who the Tar Heels have been in contact with since he entered his name in the transfer portal.

A 5-foot-10 guard from Brooklyn, New York, Huff will have plenty of suitors for his final season of collegiate eligibility. After beginning his career at VMI, Huff transferred to Chattanooga and flourished, becoming one of the best mid-major shooters in the country.

This past season, Huff led his team in scoring with 15.2 points per-game, as the Mocs finished the regular season in first place in the Southern Conference (SoCon). He played a major role in the team's run to an NIT championship, scoring in double-figures in four of the five contests that Chattanooga played during its postseason run.

Now, the dilemma here is this: fans of the UNC basketball program don't want to hear anything about mid-major transfers, as the level of play is much different than what players see in a conference like the ACC. Fans saw the struggle of Cade Tyson, who transferred last offseason from Belmont, and have lived through others such as Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce who just couldn't get acclimated in their short time with the program.

Not every mid-major transfer is destined to fail, but, Tar Heels fans have their reason to have doubt.

Of course, the UNC basketball program is doing its due diligence, especially with a glaring need at the point guard position. It wouldn't be wise to not look at every possible option as the team looks to fill this very important need leading up to the 2025-2026 season.
