Over the last couple of weeks, one name that we didn't hear much about was Cade Tyson.

After earning the reputation as one of the best three-point shooters in the country, Tyson transferred to North Carolina ahead of the 2024-2025 season. His first season in Chapel Hill didn't go as planned at all, as he was used sparingly off the bench and struggled mightily shooting the basketball.

In 31 games played, Tyson averaged 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per-game, averaging just under eight minutes per-contest. After shooting a staggering 46.5% from three-point range as a sophomore at Belmont, Tyson connected on less than 30% of his attempts as a junior (during his first year at North Carolina) as his free throw percentage went down by about 30% as well.

While it started to appear like Tyson would return for his senior season, that quickly changed on Thursday night when rumors started to surface that he entered his name into the transfer portal.

That information was confirmed on Friday, as Tyson will look to find another home to wrap up his collgiate career.

Let's face it: the transfer portal can be good or bad. In some cases, players find the perfect fit (example, Brady Manek, Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan, etc.). In other cases, the player just doesn't necessarily fit, as Cade Tyson's case is one that unfortunately more fits the later.

While the delay in him entering is curious in itself, it's probably likely that Tyson's representatives have been looking at all potential options for their client. Once he realized there was an intriguing opportunity elsewhere, Tyson decided that he was ready to take on the next challenge in his career.

Without a doubt, Cade Tyson will go down as one of the worst transfer additions in UNC basketball program history, as his lone season as a Tar Heel was a very disappointing one.
