The UNC basketball program's front court will be even thinner on Saturday afternoon when they open up conference play against Georgia Tech.
Just before the 2:00 PM tip-off, the UNC basketball program announced that Ty Claude would not be in uniform for the game. The transfer big man suffered a corneal abrasion in his right eye during North Carolina's loss to Alabama on Wednesday.
While Claude was sparingly used early on in the season, he played a season-high 11 minutes on Wednesday night. Given the recent struggles of Jalen Washington, Claude seemed to be poised to play more minutes as he got more comfortable in his role.
Given that Claude transferred to North Carolina from Georgia Tech, this is a game that he certainly didn't want to miss. However, the injury will sideline him, as the hope is that it won't keep him out for an extended period of time.
In his absence, expect Jalen Washington and Ven-Allen Lubin to split the minutes at the center position. If the Tar Heels face foul trouble, James Brown is a guy who could get an extended look in the team's ACC opener.
