UNC Basketball hangs on to defeat Georgia Tech in ACC opener

While it wasn't all that pretty, a win is a win for the UNC basketball program.

The UNC basketball program found a way to get the job done as they defeated Georgia Tech in their conference opener on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill.

There aren't many positive words that can describe this game, as it was rather ugly on both sides. From 32 total turnovers to bad three-point shooting, neither team could find a groove to fully take control of this game.

The Tar Heels did as they've done over the last few weeks: come out flat. North Carolina missed seven of their first eight shots, as they once again found themselves trailing early in the first half.

Fortunately, a Seth Trimble personal run capped off a 8-0 run that put the Tar Heels ahead.

The Tar Heels went into the locker room leading by one, as the second half was a consistent back-and-forth affair. In total, we saw 12 ties and 9 different lead changes, but fortunately, the Tar Heels had a small led when the final buzzer sounded.

Trimble was outstanding, scoring a team-high 19 points while knocking down five of his six shots from the floor. He also had seven rebounds and four steals to add to his impressive overall outing. RJ Davis (16 points) and Ian Jackson (15 points) helped carry the scoring load, as the trio of guards accounted for 74% of the Tar Heels points in this one.

Overall, it was a game that could only be classified as sloppy. North Carolina had a season-high 18 turnovers, as at times it felt like they were trying to do their best Harlem Globetrotters impression. Additionally, the front court continues to not provide much, another glaring concern for this team that continues to be a focal point of this team's eventual ceiling down the road.

Regardless, the UNC basketball program has a week off before once again taking the court. As they prepare for stretch of three games in seven days, the Tar Heels will go back to the drawing board to work on some times during their much-needed break.
