Another day, another leg of drama regarding the eligibility status of the Class of 2022. With this latest development, a player who is currently on UNC's roster is now being impacted.
On Wednesday, the Tennessee Court of Appeals has stayed the injunction previously granted to the plaintiff athletes pending appeal. Essentially, the players involved in the lawsuit are now ineligible unless the Court of Appeals ultimately rules in their favor.
Yes, that means Cameron Fens is now technically ineligible for the UNC basketball program.

While the tide turns again, all hope is not lost yet
While this ruling puts a hamper on North Carolina's plans (along with many other programs across the country), all hope for Fens to play for the Tar Heels this season isn't lost just yet.

Yes, Fens has lost his protection from the Tennessee injunction (at least for the time being), but it doesn't mean that his hopes for a fifth season of eligibility are dead. There are still plenty of moving parts to be finalized, as the Tennessee Court of Appeals still has to decide the actual appeal. Fens' attorneys could pursue additional emergency relief, but unless another court order changes things, UNC can't rely on that injunction to play him right now.
Just six days ago, we all thought that Fens was in the clear. Now, his status, like most of the rest of the Class of 2022, is still very much in the air.
Just like Seth Trimble's case, this is far from over. This whole situation is quite frankly annoying, as no one wants to deal with this daily drama that is unnecessary. At this point, is there even a resolution to be had, and what chaos will ensue from it following the next decision that will be made.
For once, the NCAA is trying to do the right thing by standing their ground. Let's face it: as nice as it would be to grant all these players an additional season of eligibility, at what point do you tell these athletes that they are out of luck, having to pursue either a pro career or the end of their playing days?
Especially in the cases of guys who signed NBA contracts of even played in summer league, who in their right mind thinks it's okay for these players to return to the college ranks?
Honestly, the Tar Heels would love to have Fens available for this upcoming season. He's a major front court piece that UNC is going to rely upon, but at the end of the day, no one should be mad if he, along with the rest of the Class of 2022, are forced to move on.
This whole situation is literally sucking the life out of all of us, and we still have plenty of nonsense still to deal with as these two sides continue their clash to the death.
At this point, call me when they finally settle this. I won't hold my breath until then.
