This was not what fans wanted to see.

We love Hubert Davis and what he has meant to UNC basketball, but even we can't blame fans for losing patience. Following the loss to Stanford earlier this week, the Tar Heels needed to wake up on both ends and put together an impressive performance on the road against Cal.

Decision day is closing in for UNC's priority 5-star target Dylan Mingo

So far, the opposite has been the case. In the first half alone, the Tar Heels looked downright sluggish, getting outscored by the Golden Bears 54-37. You've got to be kidding. After a terrible defensive performance in Palo Alto, UNC followed that up with more terrible D in Berkeley?

UPDATE: This game just went final, with North Carolina falling 84-78 to Cal. The Tar Heels are now 14-4 on the season. UNC has also lost three of its last four games.

North Carolina struggling vs. Cal has fans downright livid with Hubert Davis

At the time of this writing, the showdown between North Carolina and Cal isn't even done yet, but fans are letting Davis and his staff have it. Plain and simple, this has been another inexcusable performance from North Carolina and things of course start with Davis.

Those are only a few examples of the messages being posted with Tar Heels supporters voicing their displeasure with Davis. Honestly, it's easy to see why the anger has grown. Thus far, the new year has been awful for the program, with losses to SMU and Stanford, plus this deflating showing vs. Cal. Just what's going on?

It doesn't help that the Tar Heels seem to face lights-out shooters every game of late, but the defensive effort just hasn't been there. Before the loss to SMU, it seemed like this team was headed for a strong season, with a deep run in the NCAA Tournament potentially on the way.

However, the recent losses have people wondering if it's going to be a season to forget instead. And with that, there isn't much optimism that Davis is going to be able to turn things around. We sure hope he does, but the tough showings are mounting and people aren't happy at all.
