As excited as the UNC basketball faithful have been for the success the 3-0 start has provided the Tar Heels, that doesn't mean they've lost focus on former players. Elliot Cadeau and Ian Jackson have looked sharp early on this season, which a lot of us expected.

However, did you have Cade Tyson being a scoring machine on your bingo card? We're guessing you did not, but the fact of the matter here is that the new Minnesota forward has been red hot with the ball in his hands. Through three games, Tyson is averaging a head-turning 22.7 points per game, highlighted by a 30-point showing in the season-opener. What in the world?

Cade Tyson blowing up for Minnesota is not what UNC fans expected

Hey, good for Cade. At the same time, where was this king of high-octane offense from him when he was still donning a Heels jersey in Chapel Hill? It's not all his fault, as plenty of people were not happy with Hubert Davis over his lack of playing time last campaign.

The 6-7 forward, who transferred in from Belmont, averaged only 7.9 minutes per game in 2024-25, scoring 2.6 points per night. With his lack of playing time, it wasn't a stunner at all that he decided to enter the transfer portal and then make his way to Big Ten country.

Was this just an oversight on Davis' part in not getting Davis more involved on offense during his one-and-done campaign with the ACC powerhouse? We'll let you be the judge of that. What Tyson is getting done thus far, though, has been quite remarkable.

He's shooting better than 57 percent from the floor, which is obviously something Gophers fans are loving out of him. Let's note that he is only three games into his Minnesota career and his lights-out shooting has come against Gardner-Webb and Alcorn State, while Mizzou did a better job defensively against him on Wednesday night.

Once conference play gets underway, some difficult tests will arrive for Tyson and plenty of eyes will be on him to see if he can continue to play at such a high level. He didn't leave North Carolina on bad terms or anything, so no one wants to see this kid flop. With that said, it's just mind-numbing that he's looking like an elite shooter the second he packs his bags and leaves UNC.
