Coming off a breakout sophomore season at Colorado State, Kyan Evans has elected to continue his college basketball career at the University of North Carolina.

Evans announced via social media that he has committed to the UNC basketball program. The 6-foot-2 guard becomes the third transfer commitment for North Carolina so far this offseason.

The Kansas City, Missouri native helped guide Colorado State to a Mountain West conference tournament title while also leading them to a victory in the NCAA Tournament. He was an honorable mention All-Mountain West recipient, averaging 10.6 points and 3.1 assists per game.

What makes Evans really intriguing is his three-point shooting. He ranked in the top 25 in the country with his 44.6% mark from beyond-the-arc, an area that the Tar Heels desperately needed to address after struggles from deep during the 2024-2025 season.

North Carolina has actively been pursuing a lead guard in the transfer portal, especially given the departures of RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau. Add Ian Jackson's decision to transfer, and there's plenty of room for additional depth in the Tar Heels backcourt.

Over the last few days, Seth Trimble announced his return to Chapel Hill for his senior season, and Evans followed it up by pledging to the Tar Heels, having two seasons of college eligibility to work with.

You can't deny how good of a scorer Evans has developed into, as he went from a guy who played sparingly during his freshman season to a full-time starter and one of the conference's best scorers just a season later. The hope is now that Evans can continue to build on his success and be a major factor in the UNC basketball program's backcourt mix, especially at the lead guard position.

If he can shoot the ball at North Carolina like he did this past season, Tar Heel fans are going to absolutely love this kid.
