UNC basketball could’ve had one of the most ridiculous starting lineups imaginable

Imagine if this starting unit actually played together in Chapel Hill!

North Carolina has featured plenty of loaded rosters throughout its storied history, but this potential one would've been downright unfair!

Looking back at what could have been in Chapel Hill in the late 1990s, Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady discussed a potential Tar Heel starting five that would've featured an almost ridiculous amount of talent.

This potential UNC basketball lineup would've been absolutely loaded

On a recent episode of their podcast, "Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady," the duo, joined by Jamison, discussed a range of topics, including a major "what could've been" in Chapel Hill.

Just hearing this potential lineup for the UNC basketball program gives you chills!

Carter and Jamison, part of the same recruiting class for North Carolina, discussed how they both believed that Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace would be around by the time they made it to campus. Both ended up leaving for the NBA after their sophomore seasons, which wasn't a shocker given they led the Tar Heels to the Final Four and proved they were ready for the league.

However, just imagine that starting five had both returned for their junior seasons:

Jeff McInnis
Jerry Stackhouse
Vince Carter
Antawn Jamison
Rasheed Wallace

Talk about an absolute SQUAD!

Now, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. A team's on-paper look never guarantees a national title. However, when your starting five is that loaded, and your bench has guys who would start on at least 90% of other teams across the country (such as Dante Calabria, Serge Zwikker, and Shammond Williams), your chances are likely very good.

Sports are fun in the sense that you can always talk about the "what if" scenarios that never occurred. Tar Heel fans have quite a few that are often mentioned, such as what if Kendall Marshall didn't get hurt (thanks a lot, Creighton).

This one HAS to be included in that conversation.

We're talking about potentially the greatest roster in all of UNC basketball history. Imagine this team going up against the national championship squads; it would be difficult to pick any of those title teams over this group.

However, we won't ever get to witness how special that could've been, but it's crazy to think that it almost did happen.
