Non-conference play is officially in the books for the UNC basketball program.
To wrap up the 2024 calendar year, North Carolina secured a double-digit victory over Campbell on Sunday night in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels will resume ACC play to begin the new year, finishing the early portion of the 2024-2025 season with an 8-5 record.
RJ Davis was the story early on for the Tar Heels, becoming the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals made. Although Campbell would hang around, the Tar Heels kept them at arms length throughout, keeping the game out of reach.
If it wasn't for a career night from Colby Duggan, a guy who averages 8.5 points per game and finished with a career-high 32 points, the score likely would've been much more drastically apart. Duggan caught fire and didn't let up, as North Carolina simply didn't have a way to slow him down.
Fortunately, the rest of the Fighting Camels were manageable.
Ian Jackson followed up his 24-point outing at Madison Square Garden with another career night, scoring a season-high 26 points in his first collegiate start. Davis connected on a season best five three points en route to a 23 point, five rebound outing.
Elliot Cadeau posted a double-double, setting a new career-high with 12 assists. Drake Powell connected on a couple of three pointers to finish with 12 points, while Jalen Washington, who was reinserted into the starting lineup, got involved early in the second half, ending the night with 10 points and five rebounds.
Even without Seth Trimble, who was sidelined due to injury, the Tar Heels shot 57.1% from the floor and just under 36% from three-point range. All 10 Tar Heels who played more than a minute scored as well.
Now, the focus shifts to the new year as ACC play resumes. The UNC basketball program opens up 2025 on New Year's Day as they travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals.
