UNC Basketball begins the 2024-2025 season as a Preseason Coaches Poll top-10 team
After being ranked No. 9 in the AP Preseason Top-25 Poll a few weeks back, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program earned another top-10 ranking
The preseason USA Today Coaches poll was released on Thursday, a ranking that placed the Tar Heels in the No. 10 overall slot. Here's how the top-10 was ranked in this poll:
No. 2 Alabama
No. 3 UConn
No. 4 Houston
No. 5 Duke
No. 6 Iowa State
No. 7 Gonzaga
No. 8 Baylor
No. 9 Arizona
No. 10 Carolina
Essentially, the Tar Heels and Arizona swapped places in this most recent poll. The AP Top 25 poll had North Carolina in the No. 9 spot while Arizona, led by former UNC basketball guard Caleb Love, rounded out the top-10.
Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program will be battle tested right away when they head to Lawrence to take on the No. 1-ranked Kansas Jayhawks during open week of the 2024-2025 season.
North Carolina will certainly be battle-tested, as their schedule currently features six games against preseason top-25 teams:
Kansas
Alabama
Duke (twice)
Florida
UCLA
Along these lines, there are potential matchups with Iowa State, Auburn, and UConn that could occur as well.
Coming off winning the ACC Regular Season title a season ago, the UNC basketball program will have a different look this go around. While the Tar Heels lost the likes of Armando Bacot, Harrison Ingram, and Cormac Ryan, they do return reigning ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis, along with Elliot Cadeau, Seth Trimble, and Jalen Washington and have added some reinforcements to help make another deep run in this year's NCAA Tournament.
Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels have one more exhibition game on October 27 in Chapel Hill before they host Elon to kick off the 2024-2025 season on November 4.
