Postseason baseball is the sole focus for the UNC baseball program at the moment, but they are actively working on next year's roster throughout the process as well.
The Diamond Heels have already added one of the top players available in the transfer portal to solidify the first base position, and have now seemingly found their left fielder for next year's squad as well.
Just a week ago, Georgia State standout Michael Maginnis entered his name in the transfer portal. Fast forward seven days, and Maginnis has found a new home in Chapel Hill.
You may be wondering, who is the source on this one? Well, Maginnis, a Newnan, Georgia native, essentially confirmed it via his bio on his X account.
How do ya like that for a source?!
During his time at Georgia State, Macginnis played in 138 games, starting 121 of them. After serving as a primary infielder during his freshman season, the 6-foot-1, 211 pounder transitioned to the outfielder, becoming the team's everyday left fielder.
Overall, Maginnis has a career .295 batting average to go along with 26 home runs and 111 runs batted in. In each of the last two seasons, the future Tar Heel has hit over .300, scored 47 or more runs, tallied 60 or more hits, hit double-digit homers while also driving in 47 or more runs.
Similar to what we saw a season ago, the UNC baseball program's entire outfield is in question leading into next season. Tyson Bass is set to exhaust his eligibility while Kane Kepley could very well depart via the MLB Draft. Add those two factors and combine the Tar Heels mixing and matching this season in left field, there's plenty of questions to be answered over the next few months.
It seems like Scott Forbes and the Tar Heels staff are well-ahead of us in the thought process!
