The rebuilding of the UNC football program's offensive line unit continues!

Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels added another transfer offensive lineman, securing a commitment from former Baylor tackle Sean Thompkins.

Sean Thompkins commits to UNC

More on Sean Thompkins

Thompkins is a former three-star prospect who played high school football at Newton High School in Georgia.

A 6-foot-5, 300-pound redshirt sophomore, Thompkins appeared in 10 games during the 2025 season, logging 460 snaps at the tackle position.

The reshaping of the offensive line

North Carolina took a major hit along the offensive line, essentially losing every significant contributor from last year's unit. After reshaping the offensive line last offseason, Bill Belichick and the UNC football program are once again tasked to do the same, as they hope Thompkins can be an immediate impact player to help protect the quarterback while also paving the way for the running game.

Thompkins, along with fellow commit Andrew Threatt, is a nice start in this process, but there is more work to be done at this position. Remember, North Carolina played 8-9 offensive linemen regularly last season, which suggests the program hopes to have plenty of depth (and versatility) to work with, given how important it is to have guys who can handle multiple positions along the unit.

With the addition of Thompkins, the UNC football program has now secured eight transfer portal commitments during this cycle. More moves are likely to come, as North Carolina has plenty of holes they would like to address by acquiring some veteran talent.
