The Year of Vance Honeycutt
If setting the UNC baseball program's all-time home run record wasn't enough, Vance Honeycutt capped off his Diamond Heel career by putting together some clutch moments in postseason play.
Behind Honeycutt's incredible junior season, the Diamond Heels made a trip to Omaha for the first time since 2018, as Honeycutt provided Tar Heel fans with some memorable moments down the stretch.
It started with his walk-off home run in game one of the Super Regionals against West Virginia:
The very next day, on the first pitch he saw, Honeycutt depositd a baseball into the seats... AGAIN!
In the opening round of the College World Series, Honeycutt ripped a walk-off RBI single to seal the deal for the Tar Heels.
While his first two seasons in Chapel Hill were impressive, Honeycutt saved his best for last. Hitting .318 on the season, Honeycutt finished the year with 28 homers and 70 RBIs, both career-highs. He also continued his success at stealing bases, recording 28 stolen bags.
Vance Honeycutt will go down as one of the best to ever wear the Carolina Blue uniform, as he now hopes to continue that success in the pros after being selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
