Three-star prospect O'Mari Johnson elected to re-open his recruitment at the end of May, ultimately finding his way back to the UNC football program.

On Tuesday, the three-star wide receiver once again committed to Bill Belichick and North Carolina. According to Inside Carolina, Johnson is projected to switch to the defensive side of the ball when he arrives on campus, playing corner for the UNC football program.

The Jackson, Mississippi native ranks No. 17 overall from his home state within the Class of 2026. He chose the Tar Heels over a wide-range of suitors, including Tulane, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Florida State,

Johnson had this to say in an interview with Inside Carolina regarding his decision to recommit to the UNC football program:

"To have the opportunity to play football for one of the greatest coaches of all time is an honor. Coach Belichick knows football, development, and what it takes to perform at the next level. I look forward to learning from the best and contributing to the program."

In this new world of college athletics, you can't blame a student-athlete for exploring every possible option out there. For Johnson, he decided to re-open his commitment, which was probably good to confirm where he truly wants to be to kick off his college football career.

Fortunately, that path led Johnson right back to the UNC football program, as Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels have landed yet another talented player to add to their 2026 recruiting class.

Can you blame high school student-athletes who aspire to one day play in the NFL for wanting to play for arguably the greatest coach of all time?
