There's a major rumored 'guarantee' in the Bill Belichick UNC football discussions
Is it possible that the UNC football program could announce its next head coach and his successor all at once?
Apparently, that might be the case if Bill Belichick becomes the UNC football program's head coach.
Ollie Connolly of The Guardian reported that there are some guarantees that Belichick is seeking during his discussions with North Carolina. The major item: the six-time Super Bowl head coach wants a guarantee of his successor, none other than his son, Stephen Belichick.
After spending time as an assistant with the New England Patriots, Stephen Belichick is currently serving as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies. Just 37-years-old, Stephen would likely have a few years as the team's associate head coach/defensive coordinator before transitioning to the top job.
Along with his request to name his son the head coach in waiting, Connolly also is reporting that any potential staff of Belichick's would include Matt Patricia, Ben McDaniels as well as a sitting college GM who would handle general operations — NIL, recruiting, etc.
While it seems Belichick prefers to land with an NFL team, it's rather intriguing to think these discussions have gotten as deep as they have. What makes it more interesting is the fact that North Carolina is apparently willing to accept Belichick's demands, a sign that they might view him as a very viable candidate for the gig.
