Washington played two seasons in Austin for the Texas Longhorns. During the 2025 season, he appeared in 12 games with two starts, finishing with seven catches for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Before the start of the 2025 season, Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks spoke about his high expectations for Washington:
“He brings that every-down tight end,” Banks said last week. He can catch. He’s got a great catch radius. I think the physicality with the pads on in the run game is going to be the key for him. He was 218, he goes to 260, he gets hurt, he has not a big body of work for blocking, and now he comes into fall camp against some real D-Ends.”
Even though his production in the passing game wasn't where Banks projected it to be, he definitely appears to be a guy who hasn't fully tapped into his high ceiling of potential, something that the Tar Heels aim to unlock.
His commitment adds to the UNC football program's tight end room, a position group that needed significant retooling this offseason. Washington joins the likes of Jelani Thurman (Ohio State) and Jaxxon Warren (Colorado State) as tight end transfers that the program has added over the last few weeks, adding not only size but some experience to the depth chart for Bobby Petrino and the offensive staff to work with.
