Some things in life just make way too much sense.

One of those things is carrying on a family legacy, something Malloy Smith has officially agreed to do starting this summer.

Malloy Smith commits to North Carolina

Following his official visit to Chapel Hill at the end of February, Smith wasted no time pledging his commitment to Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels. He will now follow the path set by his father, Kenny "The Jet" Smith, and his brother, KJ, to play basketball for North Carolina.

This recruitment moved FAST!

You can tell that the offer from the Tar Heels was the one Smith was waiting on all along.

On February 12, the UNC basketball program extended an offer to Smith. Just a few weeks later, Smith was on campus for an official visit, being on hand for the Tar Heels' victory over Virginia Tech.

Just a few days later, Smith made his final decision, one that seemed like a rather easy one for him to make.

Who else was in the mix?

This recruitment came down to two ACC programs: North Carolina and California.

Smith also held offers from the likes of Cal State Northridge and Portland State, but it seems that the field of teams in the mix fell drastically behind once the call from Hubert Davis came in.

More on Malloy Smith

While Malloy isn't ranked among the 2026 recruiting class, he could be one of those sneaky additions to help add depth to UNC's back court. He could follow in his brother's footsteps, a path that led both to be undervalued on the recruiting market but ended up working out nicely for the Tar Heels in the long run.

Now, Malloy joins the club of family members who have been offered and accepted an offer from North Carolina. Pretty soon, Malloy Smith will begin to make his own story in Chapel Hill, adding another chapter to the Smith family legacy with the UNC basketball program.
