The pieces are starting to fall into place for the new-look UNC football staff following the hiring of Super Bowl winning head coach Bill Belichick.

We now know who the general manager will be, as Michael Lombardi will serve in the role. The news was announced by VSiN, Lombardi's current employer.

Lombardi comes to Chapel Hill with a resume that dates back to 1981. He began as a recruiting coordinator for UNLV, and just three years later, the Ocean City, New Jersey native found himself in the NFL.

His NFL career began in 1984, serving as an area scout under Bill Walsh with the San Francisco 49ers. He spent three years there and was most notably credited for helping discover Hall of Famer Charles Haley, who the franchise selected in the 1986 NFL Draft.

Following his stint in San Francisco, Lombardi joined the Cleveland Browns organization as pro personnel director in 1987. Later, he became the Browns' director of player personnel and worked under head coach Bill Belichick, managing drafts, negotiating contracts, and acquiring free agents.

After a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, Lombardi was hired by Al Davis as the senior personnel executive of the Oakland Raiders, a role he held for 10 years. He helped guide the Raiders to three consecutive AFC West titles and a Super Bowl appearance.

In 2012, Lombardi was hired as the Cleveland Browns' general manager, and he fulfilled the role for about two years. After that, he once again reunited with Belichick, serving as an assistant to the coaching staff for three seasons.

Not only does Lombardi have an extensive resume, he has a ton of familiarity with Belichick. This is a major component of the hire, as Lombardi is someone who understands what Belichick is looking for and should be able to make a major impact in the role for the UNC football program.

The head coach and the general manager are officially in place. Who else is excited to see how the coaching staff eventually shakes out?!
