North Carolina runs through Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar,
The dynamic frontcourt duo put together another vintage performance, guiding the Tar Heels to a decisive victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. With the win, UNC extends its winning streak to three games.
Early on, Veesaar was a man on a mission. After struggling in his last outing, the junior big man came out strong, leading the charge on both ends of the floor for the Tar Heels.
While Veesaar carried the load through essentially the first 12 minutes of the game, Caleb Wilson came alive following that. After not scoring over the first 12 minutes and 30 seconds, the freshman phenom went on to score 14 points before the half came to a close, showing just how quickly he can go on a roll.
Now, let's not get it twisted: Wilson was involved very much, but not in the way the stat line indicates.
Georgia Tech made it known that their goal was to make life difficult for Wilson. Throwing various double-teams at him essentially when he touched the ball, the freshman was more of a facilitator early on, a trend that changed when the Tar Heels started knocking down shots from deep.
North Carolina built a 15-point lead heading into the locker room, a lead that was too much for the Yellow Jackets to overcome on their home floor.
Veesaar recorded his 11th career double-double (all this season), finishing the afternoon with 20 points to go along with 12 rebounds and four blocks. Wilson led the Tar Heels with 22 points, adding six rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block. Seth Trimble (18 points) and Luka Bogavac (16 off the bench) played a pivotal role in helping carry the scoring load, as the Tar Heels shot 46% from the floor and connected on 11 of 12 shots from the free-throw line.
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Tar Heels return to Chapel Hill to host Syracuse on Monday night. It will serve as UNC's final tune-up before the Duke Blue Devils roll into Chapel Hill for a Saturday night rivalry clash at the Dean Smith Center.
