While the format of this year's ACC Tournament will look different than years past, expect the same exciting action on the diamond in Durham this week.
With the regular season officially coming to a close, the field is set for this year's event. Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program earned the No. 3-seed (and a double-bye).
Let the games begin 🏆

Here's how the new tournament structure works: all 16 teams will compete in a single-elimination bracket. The top four seeds are based on the performance in the regular season and receive a double-bye into the quarterfinal round, which is scheduled to be held on Thursday and Friday, May 22-23.
Georgia Tech is this year's ACC regular season champs, which is absolutely crazy considering their strength of schedule this conference season.
Welcome to the era of bloated conferences:

An unranked Georgia Tech team just won the ACC regular season...
• having NEVER PLAYED THE OTHER 3 TOP 4 SCHOOLS (FSU, UNC, NC St)
• 7 of 10 ACC series were vs. teams that came into Saturday in the bottom 8 of conference standings
I guess you can look at it in this way: Georgia Tech didn't make their conference schedule, taking care of business against the opponents in front of them.
Okay, so now that we discussed that, how does the field shape up for the UNC baseball program?
Well, for starters, the Tar Heels have a double-bye into Friday's quarterfinal round. Their opponent will not be determined until Wednesday, as they will square off against the winner of the second round meeting between Virginia and the winner of Notre Dame/Boston College.
The UNC baseball program did not compete against Virginia or Notre Dame this season, but did visit Boston College from March 21-23. North Carolina took two of three games during that weekend's slate.
While the quarterfinal opponent is still to be determined, we do know that the UNC baseball program will kick off its ACC Tournament run on Friday night. First-pitch at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina is scheduled for 7:00 PM EST.
