The women's college basketball regular season has officially come to a close.
After a heartbreaking loss to Virginia on Sunday afternoon, the UNC women's basketball program had to wait it out to see just where they would seed in this week's ACC Tournament.
The game that mattered was Duke vs. Florida State.
A Florida State win would mean that North Carolina would claim the No. 4 seed (which came with a double-bye).
A Duke win would mean that North Carolina would be the No. 5 seed, having to play a day earlier.
Well, Florida State didn't do the Tar Heels any favors, collapsing in the fourth quarter against the Blue Devils, resulting in the UNC women's basketball program being the No. 5 seed in this year's tournament field.
The UNC women's basketball program will open ACC Tournament play on Thursday at 11:00 AM EST in Greensboro. North Carolina will face the winner of Wednesday's first-round contest between Boston College and Syracuse.
It won't be easy for the Tar Heels, who will have to win four games in consecutive days. If North Carolina wins its opening matchup, a rematch with Florida State would be awaiting them in the quarterfinals.
The status of Alyssa Ustby and Reniya Kelly seem to be up in the air, as Courtney Banghart said after the Virginia loss that they would both be back for the NCAA Tournament. There was no mention of the ACC Tournament, leading speculation to believe that we won't see them suit up in Greensboro regardless of how far the Tar Heels advance.
It's officially time to lock-in for the postseason, as the UNC women's basketball program hopes to build on what was a very good regular season for them. If it's up to us, we'll have Tar Heels basketball for four consecutive days at the end of this week.
