Leading up to Saturday afternoon's season opener, the availability status of one of TCU's returning stars has been one of the major storylines.
Jordan Dwyer, the Horned Frogs' leading receiver from a season ago, has been dealing with a foot injury, putting him listed as a "game-time decision." Just a few hours before kickoff, an official decision has been made on whether Dwyer will be available, news that is very significant for the UNC football program.
Jordan Dwyer ruled out for the 2026 season opener against UNC
Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that Dwyer will not play on Saturday afternoon in the 2026 college football season opener against North Carolina. He made the trip to Ireland and attempted to play, but unfortunately won't be able to go.

Dwyer gave UNC nightmares in the 2025 season opener, a game in which he led all receivers with 9 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown. He finished the 2025 season with 54 receptions for 730 yards and seven touchdowns and is expected once again to be the go-to guy in TCU's offense.
However, the Horned Frogs will have to look elsewhere on Saturday afternoon in Ireland to get the job done.
Along with the absence of Dwyer, the Horned Frogs will also be without defensive lineman Zach Chapman, who has missed all of training camp due to injury.
This is a major bit of news ahead of this highly anticipated game for both sides. TCU, who is working in a new starting quarterback, would've loved to had their top receiver available, but they also understand the importance of not rushing him back and risking further injury.

For North Carolina, there has to be a sigh of relief that they don't have to worry about Dwyer on Saturday, but it shouldn't change the fact that this TCU offense still has plenty of capable weapons to work with and shouldn't be taken lightly.
The UNC football program is looking to regroup after a tough 2025 season, and a win in Ireland would be a major step in the right direction as it begins the 2026 campaign. Both teams will feature a much different look than the one we witnessed on Monday Night Football just a year ago, but the same objective remains the same, regardless of the location of the game being in another country.
