The UNC women's basketball program put together a strong second-half effort en route to securing their 15th victory of the 2024-2025 season on Sunday afternoon over Boston College.
After taking an early lead, the UNC women's basketball program looked like they would cruise to a victory. However, Boston College stormed back, outscoring the Tar Heels 24-16 in the second quarter to take a lead into the locker room.
While Boston College found a way to secure the lead before half, the Tar Heels made sure that wouldn't last. Behind a stellar second-half effort from Alyssa Ustby, North Carolina outscored Boston College 43-27 over the final 20 minutes of action, securing another ACC victory to cap off a strong week.
With Lexi Donarski and Indya Nivar dealing with foul trouble, Ustby stepped up to the occasion. The fifth-year graduate student scored a team-high 17 points, most of which came during the second half.
Reniya Kelly was super efficient from the floor, scoring 14 points on four of seven shooting. The sophomore guard knocked down all five of her free throws, as the Tar Heels knocked down just under 74 percent of their attempts at the line.
Freshman Lanie Grant was once again outstanding off the bench, contributing 12 points in the victory. You truly get the sense that Grant hasn't even scratched the surface as to just how good she can be.
Following a three-game homestand, the Tar Heels will hit the road to take on SMU on January 16. They will then travel to Pittsburgh next Sunday before returning to Chapel Hill to begin another homestand.
