Star linebacker Amare Campbell plans to enter the transfer portal as he looks to continue his collegiate career elsewhere. Campbell is coming off a breakout sophomore season and will serve as a major loss for the UNC football program's defensive unit.

Helping to fill the void left by the departure of Cedric Gray, Campbell proved he was more than ready to take on the role. Campbell finished the season with 72 tackles to go along with 6.5 sacks, as he was also credited with 22 quarterback pressures.

Campbell originally entered his name in the transfer portal following the conclusion of the 2024 season, but ultimately decided to return to Chapel Hill to work with the new regime, led by head coach Bill Belichick. After going through spring practices, it appears that Campbell is now going to explore his options via the transfer portal, as the likely scenario now will be that he ends up elsewhere leading up to the start of his junior season.

This is another big-time loss for the UNC football program, as the list of players departing Chapel Hill during the spring transfer portal window continues to grow. Unfortunately, this is how college sports operates in this day and age, as every offseason has the makings of being absolute chaos as programs look to solidify their rosters with the best potential players available.

While it's discouraging to see some of the UNC football program's top talents heading elsewhere, the good news is that the staff is working hard to replace the outgoing talent. Don't be surprised to see the Tar Heels landing some incoming transfers, especially at the linebacker position, in an effort to help fill the void of Campbell's departure.
