If Connor Cox decides to join the UNC football program, he'll already be a fan favorite before he even lands on campus.
The South Carolina transfer tight end was projecting toward NC State. After the Wolfpack extended an offer last week, an official visit was set up, but, that plan has now changed.
Insert Bill Belichick and the UNC football program.
Cox has cancelled his visit to NC State and will instead visit North Carolina. Based on Adam Gorney's report, it appears that a decision is expected to happen in the near future.
Given the information, it seems as if Cox could be trending toward becoming a Tar Heel.
Cox, a Jacksonville, Florida native, spent his first two collegiate seasons at South Carolina. As a Gamecock, the 6-foot-6, 251-pound tight end only recorded one catch, but it was one that resulted in a touchdown.
While his college numbers won't jump out at you, Cox could benefit from a change of scenery. Especially given how the UNC football program has utilized its tight ends over recent memory, Cox could be a guy who could benefit from being inserted into the Tar Heels offense and could be a potential breakout candidate with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Plus, him essentially snubbing NC State makes him even more likeable.
