Looks like Forbes and company are already preparing for the departures of Jake Schaffner and Gavin Gallaher.

The Diamond Heels are focused on keeping their current season alive, but are well aware of the need to attack the transfer portal as well.

North Carolina is already working on its 2027 roster and landed a major piece to that puzzle, securing a commitment from one of the top available shortstops on the market.

Jamie Laskofski commits to North Carolina

William & Mary transfer Jamie Laskofski announced on social media that he has committed to the University of North Carolina. After two seasons at William & Mary, Laskofski comes to Chapel Hill with two seasons of eligiblity remaining.

Laskofski is coming off a monster sophomore season, one that earned him CAA Player of the Year honors. The left-handed hitting shortstop hit .355 this season while leading William & Mary in essentially every major category: runs (65), hits (72), doubles (12), home runs (13), and RBI (45). His 36 stolen bases ranked 15th nationally, showing his ability to do damage in a variety of ways offensively.

What makes his addition even more intriguing is his versatility defensively. Laskofski mostly played third base during his true freshman season in 2025, but shifted over to be the Tribe's everyday shortstop during his sophomore season. His ability to play multiple positions made him an intriguing transfer portal target for many programs looking to add some infield depth this offseason.

As Tar Heel fans know, the program will likely be faced with another reloading process once the 2026 season comes to a close. It's expected that Jake Schaffner, who has thrived in his first season as a Tar Heel after transferring from North Dakota State, and Gavin Gallaher are both heading to the pros, which means at least two infield spots will be up for grabs for next year's team.

Laskofski likely fills one of those spots from the minute he arrives on campus.

The Diamond Heels aren't interested in rebuilding. They have adopted the "reload, not rebuild" mentality, one that has worked well for them in recent memory. This year's team, especially offensively, is filled with transfer portal additions, as the likes of Schaffner, Owen Hull, Cooper Nicholson, Erik Paulsen, and Macon Winslow have all made huge impacts after starting their college baseball careers elsewhere.

The hope is that the transfer portal success continues, as Jamie Laskofski will likely serve as one of the biggest additions that Scott Forbes and company make this offseason.
