Move over Marcus Paige. The history books have officially been re-written.
With his two early three-point field goals on Sunday night against Campbell, RJ Davis has surpassed Paige as the UNC basketball program’s all-time leader in three point field goals. He also became the first player in Tar Heel history to connect on 300 three point attempts.
What made the moment even cooler was having Paige on the bench. The former Tar Heel guard is now an assistant coach with the UNC basketball program, as he had a courtside view to witness Davis break his record.
Once the crowd was made aware of the history that was made, the Dean Smith Center faithful gave Davis a standing ovation, one that led to the UNC basketball star pointing in the direction of Paige on the bench, a nice tip of the hat to the former record holder.
Now, there will be those who say “well, Davis had five seasons to work with.” Yes, that is correct, but it shouldn’t take away from what Davis has accomplished as a Tar Heel.
Records are meant to be broken, as Davis continues to make history in his final season as a member of the UNC basketball program.
