After all the drama and countless people bashing the North Carolina Tar Heels, the NCAA Tournament is here. Hubert Davis and his players are all set for their 'first four' meeting with San Diego State on Tuesday night, as the winner will then move on to take on Ole Miss.
For a little while, RJ Davis and the fellow seniors thought that maybe their final campaign with the team would end without them dancing. Thankfully, the committee got things right and this team is dancing after all.
You better believe that UNC is not just satisfied with being involved in the tournament, though. This team has won eight of its last 10 games and they know they can make noise in the coming weeks. This is what RJ Davis has on his mind, as he's ready to send a statement to all of the program's haters.
RJ Davis is focused on powering North Carolina on a deep NCAA Tournament run
"I think anytime you enter March it’s a new season, and given the way our season went, it’s been an up-and-down year, " RJ Davis said via the Tar Heel Tribune. "But been very fortunate and grateful for the opportunity we’ve had to be in this tournament and kind of have like a clean slate. It’s 0-0. What happened in the regular season, what happened in the ACC Tournament is now in the past, and we’re focused on winning some games in March. We’ve got to have that mindset and that mentality going into it because it can be anyone’s game, and I think that’s been shown previously throughout the whole years of March Madness."
The slate indeed is clean and this group is 0-0. While speaking to reporters, RJ Davis and Seth Trimble both shared how relieved they were that the Tar Heels had their name called during Selection Sunday. At the same time, the focus was quickly shifted to handling business against the Aztecs.
This won't be an easy game for North Carolina, but Hubert Davis is going to have his guys ready to rock. People continue to call out the Heels for being involved with March Madness, which is only motivating the locker room to go out and prove they belong. This is something RJ Davis is going to have in the back of his mind for as long as UNC is involved. The deeper of a run the Heels go on, the more people will be forced to eat their words.
