RJ Davis put together a performance to remember in his NBA G-League debut.
The former UNC basketball star filled out the stat sheet, leading the South Bay Lakers to a decisive 144-104 victory over the Valley Suns. Davis finished the night with 31 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
The White Plains, New York native knocked down six shots from beyond the arc, something that he only did three times during his time at North Carolina. While scoring is his strong suit, Davis proved on Saturday that he is more than just a scorer, having the ability to impact the game in various ways.
After the win, Davis pointed to his experience during NBA Summer League and preseason action as being beneficial for him to begin his professional career.
"Experience is everything," Davis said. "Me playing in summer league, training camp, preseason, and being around LeBron, Luka, and AR (Austin Reeves) allows me to experience it firsthand. "What we do is nothing too difficult or different than what the Lakers do. Having that experience, having that preparation, allows me to go out and do what I did tonight."
Of course, Davis earned the reputation as a scorer at North Carolina, something that the former Tar Heel is well aware of. While Davis can score with the best of them, he also can be a floor general, an area that he will look to showcase as he makes his case to make his way to the Los Angeles Lakers' active roster.
His first performance in the G League is sure to capture a ton of attention, and it wasn't just for the 31 points he was able to score on his own. It's a collection of everything he was able to do, impacting the game on many levels.
Now, Davis will look to build upon his opening night performance. This isn't a fluke performance for the former UNC basketball star, it's one that shows what he can do on any given night when he takes the court.
