RJ Davis is making a very strong case to find himself earning a spot on an NBA roster.
The former Tar Heel legend's latest performance is arguably his best thus far throughout his early professional basketball journey, as he recorded his first career triple-double on Thursday for the South Bay Lakers.
Davis was on FIRE!
UNC fans know just how elite of a scorer Davis is, especially given that he wrapped up his time in Chapel Hill as the program's second all-time leading scorer. The White Plains, New York native scored 30 points, knocking down four three pointers in the process, but that was just the start of his outstanding night at the office.

Just call him playmaker! RJ Davis was on a heater tonight for the @SouthBayLakers 🔥 He recorded his first career triple-double! 👏 pic.twitter.com/8vm25t9VLa
Not only did Davis score the basketball, he facilitated it as well. He recorded 10 assists, serving as a focal point in facilitating the rock. He also was very active on the glass, finishing the night with 10 rebounds in the South Bay Lakers' 125-118 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars.

This isn't a fluke performance
While this was his best performance of the season, it highlights just what Davis has done thus far this season. He's been doing a little bit of everything for his team, averaging 18.1 points, five rebounds and 5.6 assists in 14 games played this season.
Given how well he's been playing, there's only one question to ask...
When will this man get a crack at an NBA roster spot?!
Davis has earned the opportunity to compete at the NBA level. While he was elite at North Carolina, Davis has taken his game to a whole new level in the pros, developing into a well-rounded guard who can impact the game in many ways.
The concerns that NBA executives had that he's purely just a scorer are firmly out the window at this point.
In fact, Davis is essentially a perfect fit for today's style of play in the NBA. A fast-paced game where scoring is at a premium, he easily could make an impact at the point guard position for a handful of franchises, especially for teams who could use a spark off the bench offensively.
The Los Angeles Lakers need to stop playing games and find a way to give RJ Davis a chance with the big league team. If not, hopefully another organization sees his value and provides him with the opportunity to compete.
We can attest that Davis will live up to the challenge once the opportunity presents itself. Until then, he'll just continue to ball out in the NBA G-League, doing RJ Davis-type things.
