The NBA Summer League contest between the San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday was a battle of former Tar Heels.
On one end, RJ Davis was representing North Carolina with the Spurs, while both Cormac Ryan and Pete Nance suited up for the Bucks.
In the end, it was Davis and the Spurs who came out on top, a win that was led by Davis' strong performance.

The former Tar Heel, who ranks second in program history in career points, did what UNC fans have seen him do numerous time during his time in Chapel Hill. While he did struggle a bit from beyond-the-arc, Davis is known to be a high-volume shooter who is tough to stop when he catches fire.
On the other end, it was awesome to see Ryan and Davis guarding each other throughout the game. Ryan, who spent one season as Davis' teammate at North Carolina, came off the bench to score 15 points in 29 minutes of action, knocking down a trio of three-pointers.
Nance, on the other hand, started for the Bucks. Fresh off signing a new contract with the franchise, the former Tar Heel scored eight points and recorded five rebounds and five assists, providing 24 quality minutes of action.

The NBA Summer League is the perfect opportunity for players to showcase their talents, and the trio of former Tar Heels who competed in this one are making the most of their extended opportunities. All three hope that this summer will lead to standard NBA contracts (or at least two-way deals), allowing them to play in the big leagues while enhancing their games in the G League as well.
In the case of Davis, it's still mind-boggling that he hasn't earned an NBA opportunity yet. After balling out during his rookie season in the G League, Davis signed with the Spurs for summer league and continues to do what he does best. With the landscape of the NBA going back toward favoring smaller guards, Davis definitely deserves his crack at an NBA roster spot, it's just a matter of which franchise will give him that chance to prove his worth.
For now, these former Tar Heels, along with a handful of others, will continue competing every single chance they get. If Davis continues to play at a high level, it will be difficult for teams to not give him an extended look as the NBA preseason draws closer.
