Rick Pitino's senseless take on UNC and NC State will have fans fuming

Can this guy just worry about his own team?

For someone whose team is about to compete in the Sweet 16, Rick Pitino sure focuses a lot of time on what's going on in Chapel Hill.

To the relief of all, Pitino confirmed that he has no intentions of leaving St. John's, indicating he will stay with his current program or retire.

Phew.

To follow it, Pitino still couldn't stop yapping about North Carolina, making a senseless take that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Rick Pitino said what?!!

Before we dive deep into it: yes, Pitino is right on one thing: the advantage that Blue Blood programs nowadays is nothing like it used to be.

However, he could've just stopped there before blurting out a line that he probably thinks is dumb now that he uttered it.

“There’s no difference between an NC State and a North Carolina.”

Pitino can't be serious

Has Pitino not followed the news?

Will Wade literally bolted from NC State after one season, electing to go back to LSU. If NC State was on that same playing field as the likes of North Carolina and Duke, you really think he would run out the door as fast as he did?

To say there's no difference between the two programs is a crazy take...

Putting the history aside, an area where North Carolina has a huge advantage, the resources in Chapel Hill are much more extensive than what's currently offered in Raleigh.

To be completely honest, it's not even close.

Doesn't he have better things to worry about?

Pitino thinks he's this college basketball guru, acting like the knower of all. Doesn't he realize his team is set to play in their biggest game of the season (and quite frankly, the biggest game for the program in quite some time) against Duke on Friday night?

When (and we say when cause it's going to happen) Duke beats up on St. John's, we can't wait to hear Pitino's post game remarks, which undoubtedly mention the Tar Heels at least once.

Free real estate in Rick Pitino's mind.
