The 2026 Women's Lacrosse National Championship game featured some very questionable officiating that ultimately didn't go in favor of the Tar Heels.

Not only did the UNC women's lacrosse program have to battle through being the "road team," playing on Northwestern's home field, but they also had to battle through some brutal calls that really changed the narrative of the game.

Like Tar Heel fans on social media, head coach Jenny Levy wants answers.

Jenny Levy calls for answers following two overturned goals

The Tar Heels were robbed of goals on two separate occasions:

The first would've put North Carolina up 10-7, while the other would've knotted the game up at 12 in the fourth quarter. Both are impactful in different ways, one which would've added to a previously-earned lead while the other would've tied the game back up. In fact, the Tar Heels lone goal of the fourth quarter was the overtuned one, showing how critical that call was.

Following the loss, Levy spoke to the media and voiced how she would like some answers as to why the goals were overturned.

“I’m not looking at the review, and I haven’t looked at the film, but it seems to me that we have a lot of work to do with our game. It’s unfortunate."

Let's start by saying that Levy and the Tar Heels handled the situation as best as they could. There's no doubt that many of us would've been a lot more heated on the sidelines if we were in Levy's shoes, but regardless of the calls, the players and coaches remained focused on the task at hand.

While the on-field nonsense was going on, Tar Heel faithful was ripping on social media about the brutal game-altering calls.

It's a shame that a game of such magnitude is being scrutinized by questionable officiating. While Northwestern won the game fair and square and played a great game, you can't help but think about how those two calls (along with some others) dictated the outcome, robbing UNC of an opportunity of a second-consecutive national championship title.

For the future, the hope is that the NCAA looks at this game and attempts to make changes to ensure that this type of situation never occurs again.
