Quarterback Conner Harrell announces his intention to enter the transfer portal
When Mack Brown was relieved of his duties as the UNC football program's head coach, it was widely expected that a good amount of current players would enter the transfer portal.
As the number continues to grow, the latest entry is one of the most notable ones to date.
Quarterback Conner Harrell announced on social media that he will be exploring other options this offseason. The sophomore from Alabaster, Alabama will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
After serving as the backup for Drake Maye a season ago, Harrell came into training camp competing for the starting gig. Max Johnson won the job but suffered a season-ending injury in the Tar Heels season opener, thrusting Harrell into the starting lineup.
Unfortunately, Harrell had his fair share of struggles, leading to the Tar Heels turning to Jacolby Criswell to take over the reigns of the offense.
In six games played, the sophomore completed 21 of 37 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns. He also did some damage as a runner, recording 55 rushing yards and an additional score on the ground.
Unfortunately, Harrell didn't live up to the hype in his limited action on the field, as he essentially couldn't work his way back into the starting quarterback role. Now, Harrell will look to continue his college football career elsewhere, as he has a ton of untapped potential that could come with a change of scenery.
