His role has diminished significantly, but that hasn't stopped Jackson Van De Brake from being a huge asset to this year's UNC baseball team.

What a moment it was on Friday afternoon for Jackson Van De Brake.

The 2024 season hasn't gone as planned for Van De Brake as he went from being an everyday starter as a junior to seeing his role significantly decrease during his senior year.

Although some players would've been frustrated with the changes, Van De Brake stayed true to the course, serving as a team captain and a valuable leader for this year's UNC baseball squad. The Yakima, Washington native waited patiently for his number to be called, and boy was he ready for it.

Pinch hitting for Alberto Osuna in the bottom of the ninth in a tie game, Van De Brake hit a line drive double down the right field line. It was a huge momentum swing for the UNC baseball program, as they essentially had three chances to drive in the winning run.

Sure, Vance Honeycutt's walk-off single will draw a ton of attention, but Van De Brake's double made that hit possible, as he serves as an unsung hero in the Tar Heels College World Series opening game victory.

To put it into perspective: Van De Brake hasn't had an in-game at-bat since May 23. To be called upon in a spot like that on the sports' biggest stage is not an easy thing to do in the first place, let alone given the circumstances surrounding his lack of at-bats as of late.

Give Jackson Van De Brake credit: he has been the ultimate team guy for the UNC baseball program. He has put the team's needs ahead of his, and has found ways to contribute however he could.

Whether it be cheering on his teammates or coming in late in games to pinch run or play defense, Van De Brake's sole purpose is to help his team succeed.

On Friday, he was called upon in a big-time spot to step up to the plate, and he was more than ready for the opportunity when his number was called.
