The 2024 spring transfer portal window has officially opened for business, as college football programs across the country look to add talent to address some of their glaring needs.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program are no different, as they have some needs that they are looking to address during this transfer portal cycle.

While speaking to the media, Brown made it known that the UNC football program is looking for defensive lineman, a quarterback and a running back in the transfer portal.

As the Tar Heels implement their new defensive scheme under new coordinator Geoff Collins, it appears that the program would like to have some additional help up front. Based on some players who have already entered the transfer portal, adding a new member or two to the secondary couldn't hurt as well.

After Tad Hudson entered the transfer portal, the UNC football program was left with three scholarship quarterbacks. No, this isn't an indication on the current positional battle between Max Johnson and Conner Harrell, but is more in an effort to find some additional depth at the position.

Finally, the running back position, a unit that needs some additional depth behind Omarion Hampton. Of course, there has been rumblings that NIL endeavors elsewhere could lead Hampton out the door, but at this point, Hampton appears to be staying and the Tar Heels are simply looking for more depth, especially given that injuries have hampered some of the student athletes on the depth chart.

The next few weeks will be interesting to say the least, as we'll have to wait and see who comes and goes within the UNC football program. Needless to say, there likely will be some new faces on campus prior to the start of official training camp later on this summer.
