Vance Honeycutt re-writes another UNC baseball program single-season record
In a span of less than 24 hours, Vance Honeycutt saw two pitches in a row.
The first came on Friday night when he ended game one of the Super Regional with a walk-off homer.
The next pitch he would see would come on Saturday night to open up game two, and the result was very similar.
His first-inning home run gave him 26 on the year, which sets a new program single-season record.
The previous record was held by... Vance Honeycutt himself!
Honeycutt re-wrote his own previous single-season record, as he surpassed his home run total from his freshman season. The UNC baseball star continues to pad his program all-time home run record as well, as he'll have a few upcoming games in Omaha to potentially put a few more baseballs into the seats.
The UNC baseball program has a very special player in Vance Honeycutt, as he does things on a baseball field that not many others can. His rare combination of speed, power, athleticism and elite defensive skills don't come around too often, as it's no secret why he's projected as a first-round draft pick in this year's MLB Draft.
It's likely that Honeycutt's time in Chapel Hill will come to an end at the end of this season, but he didn't leave his home field without putting on one last show. His most likely last performances at Boshamer Stadium resulted in some memories that UNC baseball fans for remember and talk about for quite some time.
For now, Tar Heel fans can enjoy watching Honeycutt lead this special team to Omaha, as the Diamond Heels have plenty of more business to take care of once they arrive at the upcoming College World Series.
