UNC Women's Basketball: Anya Poole's future plans announced
The offseason is well underway for Courtney Banghart and the UNC women's basketball program, as three players have now officially entered the transfer portal.
Shortly after announcing that Alexandra Zelaya entered her name into the transfer portal, Talia Goodman posted that Anya Poole has joined her fellow classmate in the portal.
The student-athletes who received an extra season of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic benefit from having that year to work with, but it does cause some issues regarding roster construction. For Zelaya and Poole, they are part of a four-player graduating class at North Carolina, but there likely wasn't a way in which all four players could stay for that fifth season of eligibility.
Poole was a starter for two of her first three seasons in Chapel Hill, as she appeared in 116 games (74 starts) as a Tar Heel. She was moved into a bench role this past season, as Boston College transfer Maria Gakdeng took over the reins of playing the middle for this year's squad.
Over her career, Poole averaged 5.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. With her decrease in minutes this year (going down 8.8 minutes from her junior season) it shouldn't be that big of a surprise to see her look for an opportunity for more playing time during her final season of college eligibility.
Poole is a player who was a positive contributor for the UNC women's basketball program, as she should be able to make an impact wherever she ends up.
There are still a few roster decisions that need to be made for the UNC women's basketball program, as the next few weeks should be very busy as we find out more about the future intentions of some of the program's current student-athletes.
